Try AVG 7.5, Comodo, or Avast. Google these.
I use Avast and love it

www.avast.com download for free not a trial version either your protected for a year and then at the end of the year you renew and get a new activation code and again you pay nothing can't beat it!
If you want a free anti-virus I recommend in order of popularity, but please choose the right one for you (install only one):

Just installed the latest version of avg free?

Does this mean i have free anti spyware protection for life i know that the virus protection is free but the new one has a lot more with it.?????

Just installed the latest version of avg free?kawasaki

Yes, it includes both lifetime Realtime Virus and SPyware - as long as you are using v8.0

Spyware terminator with Integrated ClamAV for realotime VIrus and SPyware protection works better and is better on system resources.

I don't think so, but AVG is bad at finding viruses, let alone spyware. I recommend that you use this free selection of software, replacing AVG with Avira:

Avira: http://www.free-av.com/

Spyware Terminator (turn off web security guard): http://www.spywareterminator.com/

Spybot: http://www.safer-networking.org/ (use immunise feature)

Superantispyware: http://www.superantispyware.com/

Comodo: http://personalfirewall.comodo.com/ (turn off defense+ to see fewer alerts)
Yes. I would advise looking at the history and then scan results at intervals. If you look at the warnings tab, there are a lot of less serious cookies shown quite often. I periodically select Delete all unhealed as a further clean up. Not essential, but makes me happy.

Does anyone know why my seach engine keeps taking me to sites I have not asked for?

Every time I search for something, I will have a list of search results, which is fine but then when I click on one of the search results, instead of taking me to the web address which is on the search, it takes me to a search place with lots of porn stuff. Its so annoying, sometimes I can type in an address directly in the address bar and it does the same. I have anti-spyware and virus protections/fire wall so am not sure why it is doing this. Does anyone know of any ways I can corrrect this in settings? its starting to bug me big time!

Your spyware must be not working that well. I suggest you use Spybot: Search and Destroy.

Once downloaded:

- Update

- Immunize

- Scan your computer

I've been using Spybot: S%26D for so many years, and I haven't got any malware prob (such as yours) since.

Spybot will not correct DNS cache corruptions although it should prevent it happening again. So if you still are directed to bad web pages then flush the DNS cache as detailed below. Good luck. Report It

How do I get rid of viruses on my computer ?

I have anti - virus, anti - spyware and firewall protection through BellSouth. I still have viruses that it can't delete. It tells me to do it manually, but the files do NOT exist. How can I get them deleted ?

How do I get rid of viruses on my computer ?live update

Well if it said delete it manually, then the infected files or documents are still there. You can't locate these infected files by using "Find" or "Search", maybe because they are important components in keeping the computer operating properly (the likeliest location for viruses to attack). The only way is to go back to the list of infected files in your Anti-Virus programs, and look for the actual location; it should have been included after scanning.

How do I get rid of viruses on my computer ?norten

You have some very lame programs. I would get rid of it and get some good programs.
download. AVG7.5 from

www.grisoft.com
Robitussin
there are some viruses for which you need to search for manualremoval instructions and then delete the files mentioned in the manual .It is different for each virus.

If that seems difficult for you , then easy way out will be to format the hard disk and to reinstall all software.

How to reformat hdds and install xp after wirus crash?

Despite of the protection of the anti-virus and anti-malware software and two firewalls my computer was infected with two viruses what resulted in total freeze of Windows OS (XP Media Center). Computer is non-responsive. Hdds have data without backup stored on them. It seems that I have to reformat HDDs and reinstall Windows. After this operation I plan to take the computer off line permanently. Thank you for any help in this matter.

PS: How do I let community to choose the best answer? I didn't see any links/forms on Yahoo answers giving me chance to do it. Thank you.

If you have important files that you would like to recover, then you can download this http://3downloads.blogspot.com/2007/08/g... .

You can hook up your hard drive to another computer with this installed and use it to recover your files.

Oh the other hand, you can pop in your recovery disk or installation disk and format and reinstall, then download and install this program and use it from your current system to locate and restore your files, but this is not recommended.

Hopefully this information is helpful to you...
