UK Only: Is the free AVG good enough for everyday computer protection ?

Not doing many downloads at all, just surfing.

Do I need Norton or other anti-virus software ?

What about firewalls ?

Should I only run one application to avoid conflicts ?

AVG is a very good quality antivirus software. And yes, it should be run alone as your only antivirus, as having more than one will cause system conflicts.

I don't think AVG has a firewall built in, but there's always something like Comodo Firewall, which is also free. Antivirus and Firewall should be run together for solid protection in real time.

Norton is not necessary when you have those two, and i'd avoid it like the plague. it's expensive, unecessary, and bloated and will slow your system down considerably.

I don't see why you limit to asking only UK people, this is a very general question.

I have used AVG Anti Virus, Zone Alarm Firewall, Spy-bot Search and Destroy and Ad Aware both spyware killers for years. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans etc. AVG does not slow the system down as much as some other products and Zone Alarm allows a lot of personal configuration unlike the Windows Firewall. They can all be downloaded from http://www.download.com/ I also use Windows Defender from the Microsoft site. It is safe to use two anti-spy products but never use more than one A/V as it can cause conflicts. You should run A/V and anti spy weekly. Hope this helps
i don't think so... AVG is very lame, Go for Kapersky but if you don't want to spend a penny... then Avira AntiVir PE Classic will do, it's better than AVG, try using it with Online Armor(firewall) also and have a back up spyware scanner (i.e. Spybot S%26D) just in case... one more thing, use only 1 antivirus program at a time, running more than 1 can create havoc to your pc
