As stated above, firefox offers much greater protection against online threats than internet explorer. In addition it's free and is better than internet explorer to use anyway.

Computer Protection/Antiviruses?

Can anyone help or make reccommend suggestions about anti-virus software or spyware, etc. (I know very little about technology!) I know I had the AVG free trial but it expired. I don't necessarily mind paying for a service, as long as it is reputable.

I currently have some kind of bug, trojan, or virus (just throwing words out there!) that prohibits me from using search engines online. Whenever I click on a link that comes up as a result, I am automatically transferred to another "phishy" looking search site or ebay site.

Can anyone offer advice, tips, or empathy? I would appreciate it! Being a college student, it's frustrating not to be able to use search engines (like when I have a 20 page paper due Monday!) ;)

Thanks all!

I have active virus shield. It's free and works well. You can download it on line.

i think u should try Kaspersky anti-virus its like the first or the second best anti-virus program.

but u know what.. the best way to get rid of viruses is to format your hard drive. then install the windows and all the stuff again and an anti-virus software to prevent from getting viruses in the future. coz what i know that when u get a virus and it messes up your computer, some of it stays there, or it goes away with an anti-virus but its effect stays. with formatting u get a clean new computer.
I use NOD32 as antivirus, AVG Antispyware and ZoneAlarm as firewall. I fully recommend them all, but there must be other good programs.

What is the best overall protection out there?

In your opinon, or of many others. What are the best anti mal ware to buy? Is it better to buy a certain security suite, or a separate Anti Virus and Anti Spyware? If so, which ones? Also, my last question is about a Trojan Horse, if you have any knowledge on that besides Re installing my OS, please answer it.

I went to open a post on craigslist.org one time %26 I immediately got a flag that said there was a trojan in the post %26 refused to open it! whew lol

I have bought all sorts of programs over the years but I have to say the free AVG %26#123;along with Spybot %26 Adaware%26#125; are the best and easiest to use.

If you don't do the updates on these programs than there is no use having them at all.

Unfortunately many people don't understand the purpose of the updates so skip this step to their detrement!

Think of the programs as a dictionary and the updates add new words to the dictionary daily; what good would a dictionary be if the words you are looking for are not in it?

On the preventive side, one of the best sites to test your system and get advice is Gibson Research, everyone should run a Shields Up! on their system to find out if their computer is inviting attacks by hackers by answering "ping requests" thereby providing hackers with a gps map to your system!

How do I transfer my Norton Protection to another computer...if I extended it online?

I recently extended my norton anti-virus for my laptop online but am also in the process of buying a new pc. Is it possible to transfer the norton service to my new pc and keep it on the laptop as well? If so, how? I don't really want to have to spend another 拢30 on anti-virus software for the new computer if I can use the service I've already paid for.

Any help please?

How do I transfer my Norton Protection to another computer...if I extended it online?spyware remove

What you should have done were to buy Nortons Bundle package (that covers 3 computers) but since you did not do that then only your laptop will be covered. Now if you buy a New Computer, it will come with an antivirus program all ready install for a number of months, and before the time expires you can buy the bundle package. And the price is not that much difference (between the single and the bundle) and both of your computers will be covered for a year (from one software)

What offers most protection for all forms of undesired programs?

I'm already using an AVG Professional Edtion 7.5 but recently my cousin told me that she encountered a trojan virus from her flash drive that I used. I always take time to update my Anti-Virus but I doubt it's enough.

What offers most protection for all forms of undesired programs?spyware remover

There is no silver bullet when it comes to anti-virus software. Your best bet is to run two at a time. Keep them updated and scan once a week.

AVG AV is a very poor AV its detection rate is only 82% - with this poor detection rate I just would not use AVG - Avast %26 Avira are both free %26 have a far better detection rate.

Don't run two AV's it will lock up your PC, you can do a free online scan to see if AVG is missing Viruses - try bitdefender free online scan or trend housecall.
