Computer freezes?

i have a flat screen computer thats about two years old and is windows xp. my internet provider is at%26t and comes with a online protection software. i have currently runned the anti virus and anti spyware program but it says nothing is infected or wrong. the problem is that my computer freezes at anytime when im on internet or off the internet. does anyone know what is wrong with it . i would appreciate if you gave me any advise. thanks
